How to Protect Your Home from Wildlife Infestations

May 19, 2023

The warmer temperatures and longer days of Spring increases wildlife activity, which can lead to unwanted visitors in your home or business.  These 4 tips will go a long way in helping to keep these animals outside where they belong:

Seal Entry Points: The first step in preventing wildlife from entering your home is to seal any entry points. Check for gaps around windows and doors, vents, and holes in the walls or foundation. Use caulk, weather stripping, or wire mesh to seal any openings that are large enough for wildlife to enter. If you call us to do any type of wildlife removal, this is one of the things we’ll be looking for so we can prevent a future occurrence.

Keep Food and Garbage Secure: Wildlife is often attracted to homes because of food sources. Keep garbage in secure containers with tight-fitting lids and store pet food indoors in sealed containers. Don’t leave food or snacks outside, and make sure your barbecue grill is clean and free of food scraps.

Trim Trees and Bushes: Trees and bushes that are close to your home can provide easy access for wildlife. Trim branches that are close to your roof or windows to make it more difficult for animals to climb onto your home and find a way in that you can’t even see.

Install Fencing: Fencing is a great way to keep wildlife away from your home. Install a fence that’s at least six feet tall, and make sure it extends at least a foot into the ground to prevent animals from digging underneath.

Call a Professional: If you suspect that wildlife has already entered your home, it’s important to call Fur Busters as soon as possible. Attempting to remove wildlife on your own can be dangerous, may lead to further damage to your home and may not prevent a future infestation. This job is best done by the pros!
